The BMI/Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop

The authors are alumni of the Workshop, where Bill studied book-writing with Lehman Engel. Rockwell & Rose developed the score for A Little Princess in the Workshop under the guidance of Maury Yeston, Richard Enquist, and Skip Kennon.

Stages Festival of New Musicals, Chicago

From numerous submissions, the first draft of A Little Princess was selected for the Stages Festival, and presented as a staged reading with audience feedback.

Dramatists Guild New Musicals Workshop, New York

After rewrites, a later draft of the show was selected by the Dramatists Guild for its New Musicals Workshop. There, the show was praised by Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, Lynn Ahrens, and Larry Grossman.

Sacramento Theatre Company

In preparation for the World Premiere, STC, a professional regional theatre company, and one of the oldest arts institutions in Northern California, presented a staged reading of A Little Princess for an invited audience.

World Premiere Production, California

A Little Princess played to critical and audience acclaim at the Sacramento Theatre Company. "A major success," proclaimed the Sacramento Press, continuing with, "Everything simply shines here!” 

"An uplifting fable" from the Sacramento Bee, while BroadwayWorld.com raved, "A beautiful new creation!"

Canadian Premiere

A Little Princess was selected for production at the Station Theater in Ottawa. "It's a wonderful script! I was 'ah'ing and chuckling throughout, and the music sounds beautiful," wrote the Director of the Canadian production, "It is a privilege for us and for our audience to experience it!"
